Develop a Budget

The first -- and one of the most important -- steps on your road to financial independence begins in the cash management area. Whether you are just out of college or only a few years from retirement, it’s critical to take the time to assess your current situation and create a budget. Though it may seem like a tedious process, creating a budget will help you determine how much money you have coming in and where it's going. Use the Budget Worksheet to start the process. If you already have a budget in place, it is always a good idea to periodically review your income and expenses. You may discover areas where you can reduce expenses and put more of your money to work for you!
